CORE MEANING WHEN ASKING FOR SUPPORT
Having the resources available during their time of need.
Knowing there are resources available for medical and mental health, social, educational, or legal services
Knowing where to research these services whether being online or via telephone (i.e. 2-1-1).
Understanding that when asking for help it is not a sign of weakness or being a terrible parent.
WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THE COMMUNITY AND FAMILIES
Service providers are there to help and do not want to bring additional stress to the families. All service providers are strength-based, where they want to build rapport with families and assist in any way they can.
Service providers are there to teach parents where to access further services within the community, by providing contact information or demonstrating how to search on the Internet.
Parents are expected to be active participants and to “be the change” in order to help improve their situation.
